We are very happy to announce that Meacher-Jones has now passed the “Cyber Essentials” certificate. This is a vital element of our armoury against cyber attacks.
What is Cyber Essentials
Cyber Essentials is a simple but effective, Government backed scheme that helps businesses to protect themselves, whatever their size, against a whole range of the most common cyber attacks.
Cyber attacks come in many shapes and sizes, but the vast majority are very basic in nature, carried out by relatively unskilled individuals. They’re the digital equivalent of a thief trying your front door to see if it’s unlocked. cyber essentials advice is designed to prevent these attacks.
The certificate gives us protection against a wide variety of the most common cyber attacks. This is important because vulnerability to simple attacks can mark someone out as target for more in-depth unwanted attention from cyber criminals and others. Certification gives people peace of mind that their defences will protect against the vast majority of common cyber attacks simply because these attacks are looking for targets which do not have the Cyber Essentials technical controls in place.
Cyber Essentials and GDPR
The GDPR is a far reaching set of regulations, intended to guarantee the privacy of individuals and protection of personal data, within the European Union.
Although the regulation demands that you take appropriate measures to protect the integrity and confidentiality of any personal data you hold, it does not provide a check list of measures for you to take. Instead, it specifies that you must determine your own cyber security approach based on the personal information you hold and the risk to individuals were that information be lost or compromised.
